All fabrics are cut 4½" square. You will need 4 each of the foreground (FG) and the background (BG)

  • Fold each FG fabric in ½ diagonally once and then a second time.
  • Baste or pin each folded FG triangle to a BG square. If basting, baste less than ¼".
  • Lay out your basted (or pinned) squares according to Figure C.
  • Sew the top left square to the top right square using a scant 1/4" seam and press the seam towards the top left block.
  • Next, sew the bottom left square to the bottom right square, again using a scant ¼" seam and press the seam towards the bottom right square.
  • With right sides facing, sew the top to the bottom, using the seams as a guide (having pressed them in opposite directions) and sew a scant ¼" seam.

Your block is complete. Congratulations!

Tip: if you cut your squares a scant size larger (about 1/16" larger), then you don't have to worry about sewing a scant ¼" seam. Scant is usually defined as 1 thread width.
